Frequently Asked Questions

It is common that people have many questions about therapy.  Please refer to common questions below.  If you have further questions, please contact Shane

Will I need to fill out paperwork prior to first session?

Once you contact Shane, he will send an email for EMR (Electronic Medical Record)

What can I expect in a therapy session?

Typically therapy sessions run between 45 and 55 minutes. After your initial assessment, session time will be discussed and established.  In the beginning of treatment, Shane recommends that therapy be done on a weekly basis in order to develop a strong therapeutic relationship that empowers change. Shane hopes that every session you will walk out feeling more confident to deal with life stressors.  Some weeks can seem a lot longer than others; therefore, you may want to write down specific questions or topics to address in therapy throughout the week.

Is therapy confidential?

Confidentiality is one of the cornerstones of therapy. With that said, there are some limitations to confidentiality.  Shane will discuss in first session the boundaries of confidentiality.  Times when confidentiality is limited are when someone is in imminent danger of hurting self or others.

Do you accept insurance?

I am out of network for most insurance companies. Many of my patients get most if not all of their fees covered by their out of network benefits. Please check with your insurer to make certain that you have behavioral health coverage and ask what your out of network benefit is.
